North Korean Christians Receive Bibles

12/14/2023   North Korea   (VOM) Christians working on the front lines are making new connections with Christians in the underground church and distributing Bibles into North Korea through various methods, new and old. Owning a Bible or even portions of Scripture is extremely risky in North Korea. Few North Koreans have ever had access to Scripture — or even to the core gospel message — because of the Communist-inspired regime’s unceasing efforts to prevent people from learning about Christianity.   Please pray… Pray for the underground Christians who are receiving Bibles through the efforts of bold Christians working to bring God’s Word to the North Korean people. Pray for the Lord to protect those who are smuggling Bibles into North Korea, and that the Bibles will get into the hands of those who will sincerely seek the truth. Pray for the Lord to encourage, strengthen and comfort North Koreans who are suffering in prisons and prison work camps, especially now that winter has come.

North Korea Defectors Experience God’s Word Through Dance Therapy

8/3/2023   North Korea   (ICC) North Korean defectors in South Korea are participating in a dance therapy class focused on the Bible to know the Word of God and guide them in overcoming trauma. One student who was looking for a place to learn about traditional Korean dance discovered this dance therapy group, and she is now learning about a personal relationship with Christ through it. The group is currently developing a dance related to the missionary Robert Thomas and his efforts to introduce the Bible to Korea. The North Korean students were amazed to find that they knew the story already, but they knew it incorrectly. The North Korean regime had taught them it was an invasion of Korea.   Please pray… Pray that God’s Word and the truth of the gospel will touch the hearts of these North Korean defector, and that they will trust in Christ. Pray that more and more North Koreans, both in South Korea and North Korea, will hear the gospel and be saved. Pray for the Christians in North Korea who are suffering severe persecution, torture and death for their faith.

Radio Station Sharing the Gospel in North Korea

4/21/2022   North Korea   (ICC) Free North Korea Radio (FNKR) has been working to bring news, information, and the Gospel message to the people of North Korea since 2006. Recently, the program has been reworking its method of sharing the Gospel in order to reach North Koreans more effectively. Until October 2021, FNKR would broadcast regular news and Gospel programming separately. Starting in October 2021, FNKR began integrating news programming with gospel programming to draw in more listeners. From January to March of this year, FNKR has focused on telling the listeners in North Korea about God’s love for them and His grace. On February 1, as part of the special programming for the Korean New Year, FNKR broadcasted messages from Christian members of the US Congress. Rep. Scott Perry of Pennsylvania and Rep. Chris Smith of New Jersey, both Christians, were among those who recorded messages for FNKR.   Please pray… Pray that the Lord will bless the ministry of FNKR and that many thousands of North Koreans will hear the Gospel and trust in Christ. Pray that the Lord will protect the radio ministry from retaliation by the North Korean government. Pray that the Lord will show the […]

Chinese Citizen Remains in North Korean Prison

April 2, 2020  North Korea  (VOM) Zhang Wen Shi, also known as Deacon Jang, is an ethnically Korean Christian who lived and ministered in Changbai, China, a town located on China’s border with North Korea. When North Koreans illegally visited Changbai to conduct business, purchase items they could sell on the black market, or seek medicine or other help, Deacon Jang often provided them with warm clothing, food and supplies for their return to North Korea. He also shared the gospel with those willing to listen. In November 2014, Deacon Jang was abducted in China, taken to North Korea and sentenced to 15 years in prison. Since his imprisonment, several former prisoners have reported seeing or hearing about him.   Please pray… Pray that Deacon Zhang will be released. Pray that he will experience the close Presence of the Lord in prison, and that the Lord will encourage, strengthen and comfort him. Pray that he will have opportunities to tell others about Jesus while he is in prison. Pray that the Lord will bring an end to the Kim Jun Un regime and open the nation to Christian workers.

Gospel Message Reaching North Korean Capital

3/12/2020  North Korea  (VOM) Memory cards loaded with videos explaining Jesus and Christianity are reaching citizens in Pyongyang. Someone living in the country’s capital, where only the most loyal citizens are permitted to live, wrote an encouraging letter recently to Christian workers in the region. “The video clips that I watched were very shocking,” the person wrote. “It is true that I could not understand much, but I was inspired by them; they caused me to think about life and the faith. These videos are very dangerous. But learning about the Christian faith is worth risking my life. After watching the videos, I now know why the North Korean regime is afraid of Christianity. I eagerly look forward to seeing religious freedom one day in North Korea.”    Please pray… Pray for this person and all other North Koreans who hear God’s Word, that they will understand the Gospel and come to saving faith in Christ.  Pray for those who are involved in the ministry that get these SIM cards and other Gospel-related items into North Korea. Pray that the Lord will pour out His Spirit on North Korea and open the hearts of millions of North Koreans to Jesus. Pray for the tens of thousands of Christians suffering […]

UN Human Rights Council Reports on North Korean Political Prisoner Camps

3/7/2019 North Korea  (hakugai.org editors) At the UN Human Rights Council, it was reported that North Korea continues to commit numerous kinds of inhumane crimes against its people. Defectors are detained and executed without a fair trial, and those who have contact with Christians, South Koreans, and missionaries are regarded as “political prisoners” and sent to prison camps for such criminals where they are subjected to all kinds of torture. As a result of analyzing the information that has been obtained so far, political prisoners in these camps experience harsh forced labor, game-like slaughter, hideous torture, sexual abuse and slavery, and more. Inhumane crimes against humanity are being committed throughout the country, and the International Criminal Court is being called upon to take up North Korea’s crimes as a matter of top priority:   Please pray… Pray that the atrocities being carried out in the secret political prisoners camps of North Korea will come to light and that the world will no longer be able to remain silent about it. Pray that all of these camps will be closed down. Pray that all of God’s children imprisoned in these camps will be encouraged and comforted by the Lord and that […]

North Korean Underground Church Leaders Imprisoned

7/14/2018  North Korea  (hakugai.org editor) During the winter of 2016, 18 Christians were arrested while attending an underground church. All of them were tortured mercilessly, and in the end 15 of them were released. The three leaders, however, were sent to a prison camp for political prisoners. Before President Trump met with Kim Jong Un on June 12, a formal letter was handed to him detailing the situation of these three prisoners and asking for him to negotiate for their release with Kim Jong Un. These are the names of the three prisoners:   Cheong Gwang    (57) Seo Jinju           (50) Kim Hakcheol     (50)     Please pray… Pray that Cheong Gwang, Seo Jinju, and Kim Hakcheol will be released from the prison camp. Pray that they will continue to experience the hope found in Christ and continue to remain strong in their faith in the spiritual darkness of the prison camp, and that they will remain physically strong. Pray for the many North Korean Christians who are imprisoned and that these camps will all be closed.

Number of North Korean Defectors Drops as Controls Tighten

1/5/2018 North Korea (Channel NewsAsia) Due to tightened controls in China and North Korea, the number of North Korean defectors dropped last year, with less than 100 North Korean defecting monthly. A total of 1,127 North Koreans came to the South last year, down 21 percent from 2016, according to a unification ministry. It was the lowest figure since 2001. More than 31,000 North Korean defectors have entered the South since 1948, with female defectors making up the majority as they are more vulnerable and their absence harder to spot. The Chinese government often repatriates defectors and puts their lives in danger because returned defectors usually face harsh treatment and ever death.   Please pray… Pray that God will protect our brothers and sisters who are trying to escape North Korea’s dictatorship under heavy surveillance to find freedom and truth. Pray that the Lord would be merciful to the defectors who are arrested by Chinese authorities and protect them. Pray that the North Korean dictatorship will fall, and the Korean Peninsula will be reunified so that no one will have to flee their homeland to find freedom.

10 Defectors, Including a Young Child, Arrested in China and Repatriated to North Korea

11/28/17  North Korea  (Kukmin Ilbo) Posted: 11/28/2017   Accessed:  11/30/2017 At the beginning of November, ten North Korean defectors (including a 4-year-old child) were arrested by the Chinese authorities and forcibly repatriated to North Korea. This incident was widely reported around the world by CNN, BBC and other new organizations. Efforts were made to get them released, with relatives of the defectors appealing to the South Korean embassy in Shenyang, China to try to help them. In the end, however, their efforts were fruitless and the Chinese government did not respond to the South Korean requests to cooperate with them. There is a good chance that these ten defectors, ranging in age from 4 to 60+, will be sent to prison or, even worse, one of the political prisoners camps. Please pray… Pray that the Lord would be merciful to these defectors and miraculously deliver them. Pray that the lives of the small child and its mother would be spared and that they can be reunited. Pray that the cries for help from North Koreans who have no choice but to flee their homeland to find food, etc. will be heard by the international community and that the true situation in North […]
