Mother and Children Rejected for Faith in Laos

12/7/2023 Laos (VOM) When Inn’s uncle shared the gospel with his family in February 2022, Inn was the only one who accepted Christ. The village leaders threatened Inn and his parents, saying he would be kicked out of school and jailed and the whole family would be evicted. Inn sought refuge with Christians in the area so he could finish high school and grow in his faith. Inn stayed in touch with his family, sharing about Christ whenever he could. Those gospel seeds took root. In January 2023, Inn’s mother, Phin, and his two sisters accepted Christ. Village officials made daily threats, and Inn’s father persecuted them as well. In June, he threw Phin and her daughters out of the house. They found temporary homes with other Christians, and Phin works as a day laborer for food.     Please pray… Pray that the Lord will provide for their material needs and that they will be able to build a place to live soon with the help of local Christians. Pray that Inn will be able to help his family financially. Pray that Inn will one day be able to become an evangelist, which is what he wants to do.

Laos Widowed Christian Threatened with Loss of Home

10/26/2023 Laos (VOM) La and her husband became Christians while seeking a cure for his illness. Though he died three months later, they remained faithful due to the love and care they received from their brothers and sisters in Christ. In 2020, her daughter married a non-believer, and her son-in-law moved into her house. He practices animism, making offerings to spirits and trying to force his mother-in-law to do the same. He threw away La’s Bible and tries to keep her from practicing her Christian faith. In June, La’s son-in-law and daughter told her they would kick her out of the house if she continued to follow Christ. La continues to listen to Christian radio and receives encouragement from the church. She says, “No matter what happens to me, I will not abandon God. I have hope that one day I can meet my husband again in the kingdom of God, and I will meet my God, too.”     Please pray… Pray that the Lord continues to strengthen La in her faith and gives her His peace in this difficult situation. Pray that she can have a loving and faithful witness to her daughter and son-in-law. Pray that the Holy Spirit […]

Laos Christian Teens Resist Family Persecution

9/21/2023 Laos (VOM) Ton, 18, and Tan, 16, are teenage sisters who became Christians and have been harassed repeatedly for choosing to follow Christ. Recently, their mother said that she will sell her daughters to any men who make an offer. Their older sister has also begun trying to bribe them into a life of prostitution with offers of phones and jewelry. The mother pressures the girls to prostitute themselves and regularly mocks their faith. She is requiring Ton and Tan to provide food for their family of six, sending them to work in the fields to keep them from being able to worship or serve in their church. Ton and Tan remain strong in their faith and their love for the Lord, but they are under immense pressure and are saddened that their mother sees them only as a source of income.     Please pray… Pray that the Lord will comfort, strengthen, and encourage Ton and Tan. Pray that they will not be sold or forced into prostitution. Pray that their mother will fear the Lord and be convicted of her sin.

Livestock Slaughtered After Laotian Christian Remains Faithful

3/30/2023   Laos   (VOM) In 2019, 80 people in 13 Christian families lived in Jai’s village in Laos. As one of the village leaders, Jai knew that these Christians were facing persecution from village authorities and the police. But Jai’s parents were Christians, and they urged him to consider Christianity. He contacted a pastor, who led him to faith in Christ. Soon, Jai was removed from his role leading the village, and persecution throughout the village increased. Children under 18 were no longer allowed to attend church. The police threatened to destroy Jai’s animals, but he stood firm in his faith. In January 2023, authorities slaughtered all his animals: 4 pigs, 16 ducks and 20 chickens.     Please pray… Pray that the Lord will provide for the needs of Jai and his wife, and that they will not lose heart. Laotian Orphans Rejected by Relatives Remain Faithful to Jesus

4/28/2022   Laos   (VOM) On February 13, a Christian named Nin died, leaving behind two daughters, Neung and Nom, and a son, Ram. Since 2009, the three teenagers also lost their mother, a sister and their grandmother, all of whom were believers. After Nin’s death, his older brother and sister-in-law blamed the deaths on the family’s belief in God. They offered to care for the teens only if they rejected Christ. The teens refused, saying they could never reject Jesus. Angered by their decision, the uncle said he wouldn’t care for them. Nom, 16, and Ram, 13, moved in with their pastor’s family. Neung has since graduated high school and lives on her own.     Please pray… Pray that Neung, Nom, and Ram will be able to remain firm in their faith. Pray that God will provide for their needs and bless the pastor’s family who has taken in Nom and Ram. Pray that the Holy Spirit convicts the hearts of their uncle and aunt and leads them to Christ.

Laotian Christian Attacked and Denied Electricity

2/17/2022   Laos   (VOM) Earlier this year, two Buddhist village leaders assaulted Taeng for his faith in Christ. Many in the village already disliked Taeng for his Christian faith, but the hatred toward him escalated when he began drilling a well to draw water for his family. When village leaders told him he had to renounce his faith if he wanted to continue drilling, Taeng refused. Many villagers watched the two leaders attack Taeng but did nothing to stop it. Finally, Taeng’s father stopped the attack, preventing his son from being strangled to death. Taeng stayed in the hospital for three days and later attempted to file a police report, but the police refused to help him. Since the attack, village leaders have prevented Taeng and his family from accessing the village’s source of electricity.     Please pray… Pray for Taeng’s healing and for his family’s needs to be met as he heals. Pray for Taeng’s family’s faith to not be shaken, and pray that Taeng’s faithfulness serves as a witness to the truth of the gospel to Taeng’s village. Pray also that the leaders who attacked him will come to know Christ.
