Nepalese Monk Finds Jesus

3/7/2019  Nepal  (VOM) A former monk has maintained his newfound Christian faith despite strong family opposition. Dawa became a Christian in December 2018 after living as a monk in a Buddhist monastery for 10 years. He left the monastery after placing his faith in Christ, which is a huge disappointment to his family. In Nepal, having a son who is a monk brings honor to the family. When Dawa’s brother discovered that he was reading a Bible, he threatened to kick Dawa out of the family unless he renounced his Christian faith and returned to the monastery. But having found the truth, Dawa refused to give up his faith. He now hopes to attend a Bible school so he can serve as a missionary to Buddhists.    Let’s pray… Pray that Dawa will grow in faith and that God will use him to share the gospel among Buddhists. Pray that the Lord will lead him to a good Bible school and that Dawa will become a bold Christian leader. Pray that Dawa’s family will see his changed life and want to know more about Jesus.

Church in Nepal Forced to Shut Down

11/16/2018  Nepal  (Morning Star News) High-caste Hindus have been harassing a church in Nepal, forcing it to shutdown. The church members had abandoned their building and begun meeting in homes to worship and pray. Then the Brahmins threatened any Christians who were meeting anywhere, including private homes. The church was established 9 months ago and had about 30 people attending. Attendance dropped to 15-18 people before it disbanded last week because the Christians were too scared to gather together. One local government leader said that the community will not allow Christians to fellowship. Recently, radical Hindus from India have begun urging Nepalese Hindus to persecute Christians, just as they are doing in India.   Please pray… Pray that the Lord will encourage the pastor of the disbanded church, Pastor Tufani Bahr, and give his wisdom to know what he should do. Pray that the Christians who have decided not to meet because of fear will seek the Lord for the courage to gather no matter what the village leaders say or do. Pray that more villagers will come to faith in Christ despite the increased opposition and persecution.

Nepal’s Anti-conversion Law about to be Implemented

6/4/2018  Nepal  (Asian Access) In 2015, Nepal declared itself a secular state through a new constitution. It seemed that religious freedom was growing in Nepal. However, earlier this year Nepal adopted a new law, criminalizing religious conversion, which will go into effect in August. Also, on May 17, Nepal’s two communist parties combined, creating the unified Nepal Communist Party (NCP), the largest communist party in South Asia. All of these changes have set Nepal on a new and unknown trajectory. Pressure is also coming from India’s nationalistic Hindus. Since Nepal is predominantly Hindu, these nationalists see Nepal as a perfect ally. However, they’re bothered by the religious freedom Christians enjoy, so they’re pushing Nepalese politicians to go back to restricting worship.    Let’s pray… Pray that Christians will be united and stand boldly and courageously together. Pray that the Christians will continue to share the Gospel, but do so with wisdom and sensitivity to the Holy Spirit. Pray for the encouragement, support and protection of Christians in Nepal.

Nepalese Caste System Leads to Baby Girls being Sold to Brothels

Accessed 1/28/18   Nepal   (Out of Ashes) This article is not related to Christian persecution, but as many people as possible need to know and pray about this matter.   The caste system was outlawed in Nepal in 1962, but even today the influence of the caste system remains deep rooted, and some Nepalese are not free to choose where they live or the work they do. The lowest caste people are the Badi, and they are living under great prejudice and discrimination and in extreme poverty, and as a result many of the woman can only make a living by prostitution. Some husbands sell their wives and daughters into prostitution, and in some cases, expecting mothers even sell their unborn children to brothels if they know the baby is a girl. These girls, from the age of 10, are used by 50 to 60 men a day, and not a few are abused in sadistic ways. Abortion is commonplace and repeated, and in the end these girls become sick and are tossed out onto the street to die without hope. Recently, Christian schools and organizations have begun saving these girls from this life, and so far almost 700 have […]

Christian Leaders Fear Nepal’s New Constitution Makes Evangelism Illegal

12/14/2016 Nepal (WR News) In 2015, Nepal adopted a new constitution resulting in the first religious argument since then. There are multiple clauses within this new constitution that give cause for concern for Nepali Christians. Proselytizing with the result of someone changing their faith is now a “punishable offense,” resulting in a fine and/or jail time. Other clauses would also negatively affect women’s equality and oppression for those in lower castes. Let’s pray… Pray that Christians would not be charged with religious “crimes” in sharing their faith. Pray that those who are thinking of trusting in Christ will not be scared to do so because of Nepal’s new constitutional laws. Pray for the salvation of Nepal’s government leaders.

Nepal’s 2015 Earthquake Opens up New Growth for Christianity

11/20/2016 Nepal (MNN) On April 15, 2015, a massive earthquake hit Nepal around twelve miles from China’s border. About 9,000 people died from this earthquake, 17,000 were injured and about 3 million people were displaced. Through this devastation, Christians were able to show many people the love of God and share the gospel even though conversion of religions is illegal in Nepal. After the earthquake believers responded to people in need and many have become Christians. These first-generation Christians are “the early Church. This is where the Kingdom of God in Nepal will start from,” says Bibles For The World president, John Pudaite. Let’s pray… Pray that many more come to know Christ in Nepal. Pray that those who have been displaced and are still living in camps will have the opportunity to return home and rebuild their lives. Pray for the existing believers to be bold in spreading the Gospel.
