Laotian Christians Forced to Leave Village

12/27/2018  Laos  (VOM) Christian leaders had hoped to protect 23 Christian families from being evicted from their village, but local authorities would not agree to let them stay. While a few believers have lived in the village for years, more families have turned to Christ recently through the strong witness of a local church. There are now more than 100 believers in the village, and after recurring confrontations the village leaders finally told the Christians they must leave. Three Christian leaders traveled to the village to remind local authorities that all citizens have a right to religious freedom according to the constitution, but the village authorities held firm, insisting that all Christians must leave the village by Dec. 6. They also refused to compensate the Christians for the land, crops and homes they were leaving behind.     Please pray… Pray that these 23 Christian families will find places to live and restart their lives.  Pray that the Lord will comfort and encourage them, and provide for all their needs, both material and spiritual.

Young Laotian Woman Chooses Faith in Jesus over Family

11/29/2018  Laos  (VOM) Kaili came to know Christ in 2017 after a teacher shared the Gospel with her. But when Kaili’s mother found out, she told her daughter to abandon her new faith. Kaili told her that she could not turn her back on Jesus. “I have witnessed His love for me and know that Jesus is true,” she told her mother. As a result, her mother removed Kaili’s name from the official family registry and told her they were no longer mother and daughter. Kaili moved in with her pastor’s family, and when she visited her family several months later many villagers noticed that she had changed. When they asked her about it, she told them, “Jesus taught me. I want to follow the right way and honor Him.” Kaili’s mother warned her to leave because village authorities were planning to arrest her. “Please don’t come back,” her mother told her.     Please pray… Pray that Kaili will continue to grow in her faith and be a vibrant witness for Jesus.  Pray for the pastor and his family who have taken her in, that the Lord will bless them and provide for their material needs as they take care of Kaili. Pray that Kaili’s mother […]

Laotian Christian Family Remains in Village Despite Persecution

4/26/2018  Laos  (VOM) A young Christian couple and their toddler son have chosen to stay in their animist village even though persecution has caused many other villagers to abandon the Christian faith they once professed. After authorities destroyed the couple’s home in an attempt to drive them out, they instead gathered the remains of their dismantled home and built a small hut. Church leaders from neighboring villages came to stay with them as a sign of support, and authorities are now saying the couple can rebuild their home and remain in the village.     Please pray… Pray that this Christian family will remain strong in faith and be a light for Christ among their animist neighbors.  Pray also for those who renounced their Christian faith, that they will repent and return to Christ.

Pray for Laotian Christians Imprisoned and Harassed by Local Authorities

11/02/2017   Laos    (VOM) Local authorities in a Laotian village have imprisoned four Christian men and harassed numerous other Christian families in recent weeks. Police arrested the first believer in early October after he had led nearly 40 people to Christ. Since then, many families have been pressured to renounce their faith, and three other men have been arrested.   Please pray… Pray that the four imprisoned believers will remain firm in their faith and that other Christian villagers will take care of their families.  Pray for the many families who are struggling with the persecution, including two families that have renounced their faith.  Pray that authorities and other villagers will hear the gospel and see it lived out in the faith of these believers.
