Christian Woman Stoned by Neighbor in Nepal

7/30/2020  Nepal  (VOM) A Christian woman spent a week in the hospital after a neighbor attacked her. Miriamu became a Christian in 2014, but when the distance became too great to travel to the nearest church for worship, she decided to start a church in her home. Her neighbors are not Christians, and they became alarmed when they saw the new church beginning to grow. One day, a neighbor approached Miriamu to tell her that the church (Miriamu’s house) was on the neighbor’s land. Miriamu disagreed, telling the woman she had the official paperwork. Immediately, the woman picked up a stone and threw it at Miriamu’s head. The woman continued to stone her until she lost consciousness. As her neighbor threw the stones, she shouted, “We must chase the Christians from this place! They are destroying our religious environment.” Miriamu was taken to the hospital, suffering from deep gashes on her face and neck along with internal bleeding. Miriamu said that wants to forgive her neighbor, whom she believes will come to know Jesus one day.   Let’s pray… Pray for complete healing for Miriamu. Pray that the Lord will use Miriamu’s loving and forgiving attitude to soften her neighbor’s heart. Pray that the church that meets in her home will be […]

Pastor in Nepal Re-Arrested on New Series of Charges

5/15/2020  Nepal  (Morning Star News) A pastor, who was arrested in Nepal in March and released last month, has been re-arrested on new charges of “outraging religious feelings” and “proselytizing”. Officers told Pastor Keshab Raj Acharya’s wife, Junu, that they had received orders from higher officials to re-arrest him, she said. They rejected her many pleas to be allowed to see him. The church is in financial difficulty and is unable to pay its rent, and Junu is concerned that she will not have enough money to feed their two children. “Outraging religious sentiments” is punishable by up to five years in prison and a fine of up to 50,000 Nepalese rupees (US$400). The Nepal Christian Society urged the government of Nepal to take immediate action against the chief of police in Kaski District for violating the constitution and Pastor Acharya human rights. Pastor Acharya told Junu that this fight is the Lord’s, and that, as Christians, they had to endure such trials sooner or later.   Let’s pray… Pray that the Lord will comfort Junu and her children, and that He will provide for their material needs while her husband is in prison. Pray for the church, that the members will remain faithful even if the church no longer has a building to […]

Christian Wife Abandoned in Nepal

3/26/2020  Nepal  (VOM) After seeking treatment at home and abroad for a longstanding illness, Ishika was restored to health when a church shared the gospel with her and prayed for her. Grateful to God for her healing, she continued to attend church and placed her faith in Jesus Christ. Eventually, however, the neighbors began to notice the change in Ishika, and they pressured her husband to make her stop following the “foreign religion.” Sadly, he responded to the pressure by drinking heavily, and last year, he left Ishika, telling her that he would not return until she returned to Hinduism. Ishika and her three children have not heard from him in more than six months. Because she can no longer afford school fees, her children have had to leave school.    Let’s pray… Pray that God will supply Ishika’s needs and that her husband will come to know Christ. Pray that she will not lose hope but be able to trust the Lord to provide for the needs of her family. Pray that she will continue to grow in her faith and have a positive testimony to her neighbors and friends.

Jesus is Healer and Savior to Nepali Mother

2/6/2020  Nepal  (VOM) Laxmi, a young Nepali woman, accepted Christ in 2017 after being healed from a long illness through the prayers of a local church. She continued to attend the church after her recovery, but her husband told her, “You went to church for healing and now you are healed, so you don’t need to go to church.” Laxmi boldly replied, “Now I know Jesus, and He is not just a healer but a Savior, also.” When she repeatedly refused to stop attending the church, her husband married another woman and left Laxmi and their 7-year-old daughter behind. Unable to pay their rent, Laxmi is now homeless. She hopes to start a tailoring business to sustain them.    Let’s pray… Pray that Laxmi will be able to start a tailoring business and support the two of them. Pray that her daughter will become as committed to Christ as Laxmi is. Pray that Laxmi will not lose heart, but will find that Jesus is faithful to all His promises.

Nepal Widowed Roommates Trust in God

12/26/2019  Nepal  (VOM) Rabiya and Shilpa became roommates after their husbands were killed in an accident many years ago. When Rabiya became sick a few years ago, she turned in desperation to a church for prayer. After she was healed, both women made a commitment to follow Christ and started attending church regularly. Their relatives and community immediately shunned them, refusing to even speak to them. They live in a small hut they built themselves, and they have no electricity or running water. Although there is a well nearby, the community forbids them from using it because they are Christians. Despite their difficulties, they have strong trust in the Lord that He will provide everything they need.    Let’s pray… Pray that God will provide for Rabiya and Shilpa. Pray that they will continue to witness for Jesus and that their neighbors will come to know Him. Pray that they will grow in their faith and in the knowledge of the Lord Jesus.

Young Nepalese Christian Chooses Jesus over Family

7/18/2019  Nepal  (VOM) Toofan became a believer two years ago, but he didn’t tell his family about his new faith until his baptism earlier this year. His mother tried to persuade him to renounce his faith in Christ, and when that failed his family kicked him out of the house. Most recently, his parents tried to force him to marry a Hindu woman, but he rejected the idea. His mother then told him she would pressure his boss, who is also his uncle, into firing him from his job. Despite all this opposition, Toofan has chosen to follow Jesus. “He strongly believes if one door is closed, God will open many more for him,” said the VOM contact.    Let’s pray… Pray that Toofan will stand firm in his faith no matter the cost. Pray that his testimony will impact his family, and others will begin to seek the truth in Jesus. Pray that the Lord will make the path He has chosen for Toofan very clear to him.
