Due to tightened controls in China and North Korea, the number of North Korean defectors dropped last year, with less than 100 North Korean defecting monthly. A total of 1,127 North Koreans came to the South last year, down 21 percent from 2016, according to a unification ministry. It was the lowest figure since 2001. More than 31,000 North Korean defectors have entered the South since 1948, with female defectors making up the majority as they are more vulnerable and their absence harder to spot.
The Chinese government often repatriates defectors and puts their lives in danger because returned defectors usually face harsh treatment and ever death.

Please pray…

  • Pray that God will protect our brothers and sisters who are trying to escape North Korea’s dictatorship under heavy surveillance to find freedom and truth.
  • Pray that the Lord would be merciful to the defectors who are arrested by Chinese authorities and protect them.
  • Pray that the North Korean dictatorship will fall, and the Korean Peninsula will be reunified so that no one will have to flee their homeland to find freedom.
