A Muslim father in eastern Uganda burned his 19-year-old daughter with an iron after learning that she had converted to Christianity. Naasike Maliyati attended an evangelistic crusade with a friend on July 15 and gave her life to Christ. When she went home, she told her sister that she had become a Christian and her sister told her father. When she returned home from church the next Sunday, Naasike her father and uncles were waiting for her and angry. They tied her up, beat her, and finally her father picked up a hot iron burned her on the buttocks. Her father furiously continued shouting that she had shamed the family. He ordered her to stop attending church services before relatives put her on a motorbike and left her alongside a river. A Christian happened to ride by and rescued her when he heard her calling, “Jesus, Jesus, Jesus!” He put her on his motorbike and took her to a medical clinic. He also paid to admit her for medical treatment. The attack was the latest of many instances of persecution of Christians in Uganda that Morning Star News has documented.

Praise God that He brought a Christian by the river when Naasaki needed help and was crying out to Jesus.
Pray that the Lord will heal her completely of the burns and the emotional trauma of her father’s attack.
Pray that Naasaki will grow in her faith and that members of her family will eventually trust in Jesus Christ, too.
