Abdul Rauf, a Muslim landowner attacked two Christian on Jan. 27 when they went to his field to relieve themselves. Rauf tried to rape Rukhsana Bibi, and when she resisted struck her repeatedly with the handle of his axe. When her sister, Asifa, heard her screams for help, she ran to the field and tried to stop Rauf, who attacked her also. After Rauf fled the women went to the police, but the police were reluctant to register a First Information Report (FIR) against the suspect, stalling for three days. After a local Christian politician intervened, officers registered an FIR. Rauf, however, was set free on bail on lesser charges. Tahir Chaudhry, a local Christian politician and attorney eventually got the charges changed, and the police were told to arrest Rauf. He has avoided arrest so far. A Pakistani Christian rights group has decided to build four latrines for the twenty to thirty Christian families in the village so the women and girls do not have to outside into the fields.
Please pray…
Pray that the Lord will heal Rukhsana and Asifa of their physical wounds and emotional trauma.
Pray that the police will sincerely seek and arrest Rauf and prosecute him according to the law.
Pray that such attacks will end now that there will be latrines for the Christian women and girls.
