Boko Haram is escalating attacks on Christian communities in Chibok, Borno state, displacing more than 4,000 Christians in recent days. In a series of coordinated raids, Boko Haram targeted four Christian villages, burning homes and churches, and killing five people. Eyewitnesses reported that Boko Haram militants targeted Christians during these raids, intimidating them and demanding they convert to Islam or face death. The villagers have lost their livestock, food supplies, and livelihoods. Boko Haram has waged a violent insurgency since 2009, targeting Christians, moderate Muslims, and government institutions in its quest to establish an Islamic caliphate. The group gained global infamy for its 2014 abduction of 276 schoolgirls in Chibok, and many of the girls have not been recovered. Since then, Boko Haram has killed of tens of thousands of civilians, displaced more than 2.5 million people, and destroyed churches, schools, and entire communities across Nigeria’s northeast. The group frequently targets church gatherings, burns down places of worship, and murders Christians who refuse to renounce their faith.
Please pray…
Pray that the Christians in Nigeria will not lose hope and that the Lord will comfort and strengthen them.
Pray that the Nigerian government will do all it can to eradicate Boko Haram and the Fulani terrorists groups, which are targeting Christians, and if it will not, that the Lord will raise up a new government that will.
Pray that those who have been kidnapped and are still in captivity will be released or rescued. In particular, pray for Leah Shirabu and Alice Ngaddah, who were kidnapped in Feb. 2018.
Pray that the Lord will appear in dreams and visions to many of the Islamic terrorists and draw them to Himself.
